Fill short glass with crushed ice, simple syrup, lime juice and rum. Shake vigorously for two seconds and service with slice of lime.

(Simple syrup is 2 parts sugar and 1 part water gently boiled for 5 minutes stirring often. The brown sugar gives this drink its island overtones.)
